Description: Stapleton castle is a small motte castle believed to have been built by Stapeleton-in-Legharness in the 12th century and placed in the custody of King John in 1207. It is situated along a major north to south route following the Cound Brook valley south from Shrewsbury. As yet nobody has found traces of a bailey in which the castle's domestic buildings would have been built.
