Medieval moated site at Court House, Gretton

Medieval moated site at Court House, Gretton

Date: 2003

Description: This aerial photograph shows the remains of a medieval moated site at Court House in Gretton, near Cardington. The manor house would once have stood within the rectangular moated enclosure and would have been approached from a causeway to the east. The manor itself was situated on raised ground and surrounded by large formal gardens that were dominated by water features such as ornamental fish pools. The photograph also shows extensive remains of the medieval field systems with characteristic ridge and furrow scars. These are thought to be contemporary with the moated manor.
